Dulwich Therapy Rooms - 03/04/2013
I visited Dulwich Therapy Rooms today and observed the senior acupuncturist and co-founder of Dulwich Therapy Rooms, Dan Bevan. I originally contacted Dulwich Therapy Rooms (DTR) with the intention of observing one of the osteopaths who work there but during the conversation about possible dates it transpired that I could only make a day when the osteopaths didn't work and so I thought it would therefore be a great opportunity to
THINGS I LIKED:
I really liked the friendliness of the clinic and the fact that everyone who worked there clearly had a good relationship with each other and respected the other person, no matter what their profession.
The clinic is relatively small (it is above a health food shop) but this gives it a sense of cosiness rather than making it claustrophobic.
Daniel was wonderful with his patients and had a really professional yet caring manner. As I mentioned regarding my trip to Jo Wildy, this is can often be a harder task to master than some people realise and I think you either have it or you don't - Daniel definitely did.
Again, there was quite a variety of patients on the afternoon I visited, from someone with fibromyalgia, to someone who was looking for cosmetic acupuncture to reduce some lines around her eyes. Obviously the latter patient is someone we would never get to treat as an osteopath so it was great to see this approach and also how Dan also looked at her health in general and worked this in to the treatment - it wasn't only about reducing lines!

On Reflection....
If I was lucky enough to find work in a multi-disciplinary practice like Dulwich Therapy Rooms I would be really happy as I think it manages to strike the right balance between large-scale busy practice and friendly, intimate environment where as a patient I don't think you would feel like you were just one of the herd. The fact that the practice is family run probably helps with this and aids this environment.
